早就想寫這篇文章了，感覺以後可以常常提到它。

“Based"這個字我在 merriam-webster 查到了以下定義：

Based is used approvingly to describe someone who projects a lack of concern about how others feel about their actions or opinions. It can also describe a thing, such as an action or event, perceived as both bold and commendable, especially if it challenges or flouts convention in some way.

The slang use of based is widely credited to Berkeley, California rapper Lil B, whose 2007 album with hip-hop group The Pack was titled Based Boys, and who counts “The BasedGod” among his aliases.

Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive. When I was younger, based was a negative term that meant like dopehead, or basehead. People used to make fun of me. They was like, “You’re based.” They’d use it as a negative. And what I did was turn that negative into a positive. I started embracing it like, “Yeah, I’m based.” I made it mine. I embedded it in my head. 但那不是我今天要討論的主題。“Based"這個字，根據 merriam-webster，似乎也被一些美國的「另類右派」拿去用了。要先聲明的是，我和他們沒有任何關係。

我自己發明的，對"Based"這個字的定義是：

基礎、簡單、低依賴、獨立、強大、接近底層、可轉移性高

我知道，我知道，別生氣。我知道定義的方式有五種，這根本不算其中之一。看來我不太擅長下定義，所以就借了一些近義詞希望讀者能理解。

所以我也準備好了一些例子，這是我比較擅長的說明方式。

以軟體來說的話，“Based"軟體會專注於把事情做好而非增加不必要的功能，就像 suckless.org 宣傳的理念那樣，你可以到他們的網站看看，理解他們的哲學。

The Motherf**king Website 是"Based"網站的一個例子。

讓我舉一些"Based"程度由淺入深的例子吧：

  • 寫這篇文章：用 Microsoft Word 寫 < 用 LibreOffice Writer 寫 < 像我現在這樣用 ghostwriter 之類的 Markdown 編輯器寫 < 用 Vim/Emacs 在終端機裡面寫 < 寫在紙上（不過這樣你可能讀不到）
  • 聽音樂：串流 < 下載 < 用 CD < 用黑膠唱片/卡帶
  • 閱讀：看電子書，線上看 = 聽有聲書，線上聽 < 看電子書，下載有 DRM 的回來讀 = 聽有聲書，下載有 DRM 的回來聽 < 看電子書，下載無 DRM 的回來讀 = 聽有聲書，下載無 DRM 的回來聽 < 你直接讀實體書不就好了？
  • 手機作業系統：iOS < Android < Graphene OS 或其他開源的作業系統
  • 電腦作業系統：Windows = Mac OS < 入門級 Linux 發行版（例如 Linux Mint） < Arch ＝ Debian
  • 專有軟體 < 自由軟體
  • 使用 GUI（圖形使用者介面）< 使用終端機
  • 使用社群媒體（例如：IG、threads） < 架自己的網站，就像你現在看到的這樣

我從來沒這麼說。

我認為正確的作法是，學習 Based 工具要如何使用，因為這樣你也會比較 “Based”（merriam-webster 的定義）1。至於要不要使用最 Based 的工具就看你，有時最 Based 的方案不符合你的需求。但我覺得現在普遍的現象是大家都在最不 Based 的那端，所以加入我吧！你可以參考我等下列出的一些連結。
